The Story Behind The Story

Once upon a time...

...there were two young sisters named Veda and Minnie whose parents were homesteaders.

In the arid, dusty soil of north eastern Nevada, sagebrush grew taller than the girls. Sun blistered their skin as they picked berries, hauled water, and cared for a calf they called Star.

Days were hot, long, and hard. Jackrabbits ate everything the family planted. The water dried up; the town burned down. It was time to move on.

Childhood was over.

The sisters parted ways, never to see one another again.

Veda ended up on Oregon where she started a farm and grew strawberries. In a lonely town in Utah, Minnie worked as a cook, and then in a laundromat. Days turned into years, years into decades.

Time and distance separated them...but Veda and Minnie were sisters.

Ultimately, handwritten correspondence became a crucial lifeline that connected their hearts and lives in times of both joy and sorrow, giving them hope and strength.

My grandmother was the little girl named Minnie. Because Grandma helped raise me, I saw first-hand the delight she found in exchanging cards with her beloved sister. Thus, at a very young age, I decided I wanted to be a part of the magic that comes from the kind of heartfelt correspondence that can change hearts and lives for the better.
